Waterleau is a technology company with a focus on building and maintaining water purification, air purification, and recycling plants. Waterleau serves the whole world from offices in 10 countries. Waterleau is responsible for the daily operation of more than 11 water treatment plants around the world with approximately 520 employees, providing 1 million m³ of clean water per day.

One of Waterleau’s largest reference projects is in Morocco. It has been working with the Moroccan government to build, operate, and maintain water treatment plants and sludge drying facilities since 2012. Waterleau manages six water treatment plants in Morocco (Marrakech, Fes, Kenitra, Khouribga, Dakhla, Bouskoura) daily. These plants treat 480.000 m³ of water – enough for the consumption of around 5 million people – every day.

Electricity is also generated at the Marrakech site through four cogeneration (CHP) plants. These ensure that the daily electricity consumption on the site is reduced by over 50%.

The collected sludge has also been recycled further by Waterleau since 2018. Thanks to the sludge dehydration plant, 205 tonnes of this residual flow are upgraded and reused every day.

Together with the Moroccan government, Waterleau and Group Machiels have written a complete ‘Closing the Circle’ story with a positive impact on people, the environment, and society.
